Don’t forget to renew your membership for 2017 to take advantage of all ICBA has to offer; discounted certification courses through WorldatWork, four quarterly events including an annual conference, networking opportunities, and professional development.  We excited to announce that Melissa Sharp Murdock, Esq., the Senior Manager of External Affairs for WorldatWork, will be our keynote speaker for our annual conference on April 266h.    You won’t want to miss it now that the election is over and we all want to know what legislation will be proposed with the new administration.

Melissa’s team sets WorldatWork's legislative and regulatory position priorities aimed at influencing regulations and legislation that could affect total rewards and HR professionals in the United States.

We had another successful annual conference this year.  Connie Haney from Willis Towers Watson was our morning keynote speaker and Chris Redgrave from Zions Bank was our afternoon keynote speaker. We had six excellent, informative breakout sessions as well. We have more exciting events planned for this year; two additional WorldatWork certification courses, an advanced Excel course, a breakfast meeting on September 14th and a luncheon on November. Review our web site for more information.

    Hello Friends!

Wow, can you believe it’s almost 2016 already? Where did 2015 go?!

The Intermountain Compensation & Benefits Association has had an exciting year, but the number of programs coming up as we move towards the New Year has never been more prolific. Check out our website and the upcoming events page for details on our ICBA events and classes. Our next event will be a luncheon held on January 20th at the Little America. We will be pleased to hear a panel discussion on giving meaningful rewards with limited budgets.

If you couldn’t attend our November 18 meeting, you missed an excellent presentation by Susan Grassli, ACA Compliance Director at GBS.  Susan provided a critical and timely presentation on ACA Reporting.  Check the Resources page to view the slides from her presentation.  I've already printed a copy for myself.  They are an excellent resource!!

My term as your President will conclude on December 31 and your current Vice President, Carolin Spencer will assume the Presidency.  The transition is already well under way as Carolin has already begun making preparations for upcoming events including securing speakers for our Annual Conference in April, 2016!

Some of our most valuable and experienced board members have decided to move on to “other opportunities” after serving on the board for a few (or more) years with distinction. I and ICBA would like to thank Jennica Cannedy for her invaluable work as our Education Coordinator.  Judy Martindale, our current secretary and former Membership Coordinator, has done an excellent job for ICBA over the past few years as well.  We are grateful for their service and will miss them.

The thing that I have enjoyed the most about my time as an ICBA leader is working with my fellow board member volunteers.  Our chapter is very fortunate to have so many wonderful people who volunteer their time to put on great classes and events, publish the newsletter, update the website, organize social programs, recruit new members, coordinate certification courses and keep the chapter vibrant for its members.

It’s hard to believe that by the time we meet again, it will be 2016!!   2015 has really flown by, and I want to again express my gratitude to our members and to our all-volunteer board for their many contributions to ICBA.

We hope to see you at our next luncheon on January 20th, but either way, here’s wishing the best for you and a great start to the New Year!

    Happy Holidays!

    Hello Friends!

Fall has taken center stage bringing with it crisp evenings, changing leaves, and Friday night high school football, as well as preparations for the new year.   And suddenly it’s dark on the way to work, and dark on the way home too!

Since our last meeting, the ICBA board has been actively planning for the coming year, including succession planning, scheduling speakers for the Annual Conference, and putting the finishing touches on our education calendar for 2016.

Speaking of the Annual Conference – we have once again secured our event at the Little America on April 20, 2016.  If you have colleagues who are not yet members but could benefit from attending the Annual Conference, please encourage them to pursue membership – it will cost them less to join than to pay the difference for non-member registration for the Annual Conference and one additional program.  And I promise you – it will benefit them to attend.  We have what I think is the start of the best line-up of presenters ever.

Also a heads up that as you are preparing for your 2016 budgets, our ICBA Membership rates will be increasing by $10 to $200.  As you know, part of our revenue comes not only from the classes we sponsor locally, but also the webinars, classes and conferences you attend through WorldatWork.  We have seen a marked decline in class attendance the last couple of years.  This impacts our budget for future events.  Our board has made a focused effort to keep our expenses reasonable.  You may recall that we often send out reminders that for each WorldatWork class or event you register for you need to enter or mention the priority code LNPROMO2016.  By using that code WorldatWork then credits money back to our Association that is used to continue to provide classes, events, and other compensation and benefits programs for our members.

We’ll be back at Little America for our upcoming meeting on November 18 where we will hear from Susan Grassli, ACA Compliance Director at GBS.  Susan will be providing a critical and timely presentation on ACA Reporting.  As many of you know, large employers (50 or more employees) who sponsor group health plans will be filing and furnishing new information to both their employees and the IRS.  Come learn about the new forms, the requirements, the reporting methods and more!

As always, if you have any suggestions, updates, or information on any subject that you feel might be of interest to others and you would like to share that information, or see it in the newsletter, website or our social media sites, please feel free to send an email.  We look forward to seeing you at our program in November!

This greeting is sent hoping your summer has been wonderful and you are enjoying extra time with your family making great memories before the craziness of back to school starts and the leaves begin to change.

As most of you know the new ICBA website is up and running and we are still working to make it the best website we can for our members. Please take a moment to look around the site and see how much more user friendly it has become.  Please provide us with your comments and ideas to make it even better. You can send your message right from the website and someone will promptly answer you.

I’m sure our members would agree that the ICBA is more than just a name.  We are an active group of compensation and benefits professionals, eager to learn and help others in our profession and the community.  This year started with a flurry of activity.  We have already had our January and March events, our Annual Conference in April, as well as WorldatWork certification courses.  In addition, many of you were able to attend the WorldatWork Total Rewards 2015 Conference in Minneapolis.

Our next event will be a luncheon on September 9th beginning at 11:30 a.m. at The Little America Hotel.  We are thrilled to hear from Mark Szypko, national presenter for IBM and a member of the WorldatWork faculty.  His presentation is titled “Proposed FLSA Changes and their Impact on Organizations.”  Find out the latest on the proposed changes to the Fair Labor Standard Act, what impacts those changes will have on organizations, and what you need to know to adequately prepare your company for these significant changes.  This is a topic that impacts us all!!

We still have some great events and courses planned before the year is through, so be sure to check out the website and your email for updates.

I am very excited about the future of our organization.  However, we could not do any of this without the support of each and every one of you.  If you have any suggestions, updates, or information on any subject that you feel might be of interest to others and you would like to share that information, or see it in the newsletter, website or our social media sites, please feel free to send an email.

Looking forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
